Need to Log loss of AT&T service - resolved

Post by AZgl1800 »

I did a search for as many terms as I could think of, but none of the returns were relative to what I need.

I am in a battle with AT&T over their ASDL here in Oologah, Oklahoma. They are the ONLY GAME in town.

it is out almost as much as it is in. I have a trouble ticket in with them right now, but as usual, they are letting go until they damn well feel like sending out a single man, and not the team they promise.

I have been over this with them so many times in the last two years, that supposedly I have a brand new line from my house to the street ( this I verified ) and from there they have repaired/replaced all service connections to the Central Office which is 18,000 feet ( by their routing ).

I am filing complaints with the Oklahoma State Corporation Commission about their lack of service.

The biggest problem I have is when the service team comes to the house, "we can't see anything wrong sir" and they leave.

What I want is a log of the outages, I have a Desktop PC that has not been offline in ten years, I want to setup a logging service on to and keep a record of the outages.

This is so bad, that the entire town of Oologah goes out at the same time.
both of our banks, our only grocery store, both of our gas stations, and the DMV tag agency...
Everything is shut down until AT&T gets their act together

but, nothing is being done about protecting us from loosing service again.
I am going to file a lawsuit AT&T and CC the Corporation Commission to get something done.

I need a program that can run 24/7 until I decide to turn it off. Which will be never, it will run until the day I die.

never mind, with a lot more search terms I found what I need.

at least maybe this thread will be useful for others who are fighting this battle.

My searches came up a a huge number of thread for other folks who are having the same outage problems that I am.

Here is the solution, a commercial program that I am very much willing to pay for.

$9.95 for a permanent License is so cheap, as to be free.

Do you use Windows? This program only works on Windows.
Is there a Mac / OS X / IOS / Android / Linux version of NUM?

No, sorry, NUM is only available for Windows.

Yeah,

I also noticed that right away. Windows only :( :(

As it happens for me, I have a Win7 desktop that is never, ever, shut down. It is a server for our WiFi enabled printers, 3 of them. Also, it is my most reliable workstation bar none.....

I blocked Windows Updates on it about a year ago, locked it down tight with Firewalls, etc....
it never surfs the internet, it only goes to forums that I know. It has never once had a virus on it since I bought it about 8 years ago.

Right now, that program from https://netuptimemonitor.com/ has been running since 20:00 hours and not once has it sent out the Four Loud Beeps. I purposely chose the most obnoxious Alert Tone they have as a default.... until I get tired of hear it LOL. it is 02:50 hours now

Guess what? I must have put a scare into AT&T, that program has not beeped once, this laptop has not had one instance of "Loss of Service"..... my daughter lives on Facebook with her business, she has not experienced a single problem since I turned that program on.

Now get this.... from about 10:00 hours yesterday, and until I installed Network Monitor, our access to the internet was just about useless.... go figure.

Now this has got my feeble brain cells wondering, is AT&T turning off my service IF they detect a lack of use??? The Network Logger is continually pinging 3 different servers and if all three miss a ping, that it says that "Loss of Service" has occurred, and the log in finalized and closed out, and a new Log started.

Whatever, I will be back and let all know how well this works for me in my battle with AT&T.

well what do you know, I just heard that monitor beep 4 times!!

went to Terminal and pinged 8.8.8.8 and the web was back already....
but, what it does show, and will prove to AT&T is my service is crappy, I have a much dirtier word for it, but you get my meaning.

I am going to the Win7 machine and copy the log to this thread.

Well,
we heard the four beeps, but no log was generated,

so, I went to look at the settings. it seems the outage did not last longer than 5 seconds.
so, I cut it down to 2 seconds, if long than that, I will get some logs....

According to this link ... https://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk ... tance.aspx , the maximum distance from the Telephone Exchange station to the customer's place for an ADSL Broadband Internet connection is 5.5km or 18,044feet. At such a distance, Internet connection may drop unexpectedly, especially during peak periods. So, here in lies your ADSL connection problems.

Knowing the limits of ADSL technology, AT&T should have built an Exchange substation at Oologah town itself if they had wanted to offer ADSL Broadband Internet service to the residents there, even though Oologah's population is only 1,000+.
... Or they could have upgraded to Fiber-optic cables.

Fiber-optic cables are not such limited. Wireless Cellular and Satellite Internet are super expensive and Data-capped at low monthly limits. Satellite Internet are subject to bad weather interruptions, eg rain and thunderstorms.

17 failures overnight, here are the logs.
This of itself would not have resulted in my calling and harassing the IT techs,
but it is significant in that I have many times clicked SUBMIT and no response from forum,
or clicked a link and just sat there for a long time waiting for the server...

here is latest pix as of 0900

had several more outages since last post, one of which was 3:30

more than enough time to piss anyone off....
the log just keeps getting longer, and still no phone calls from AT&T to come fix anything
