Black screen after changing login setting. Startx works

Post by teamspoad »

Greeny here. I run 18.2 mint cinnamon. Dual boot, 1 user, autologon.
I logged out of mint, and from the login gui drop down menu, I chose gnome (or kodi) to see what happened when I logged in that way, I was curious why so many entries existed and what they did. Don't remember exactly if it was gnome or kodi I selected, but since, I get GRUB->"lm" logo->black screen with working pointer.

I can ctrl+alt+f1, type startx and it gets me to usual desktop, but its much slower, and slightly scrunched in display. VLC ends up off the screen a bit, etc... It seems to all work, but not quite right or the same. I logoff and it takes me back into command line automatically, so I cant change the log in gui menu as before.

Any way to change that setting, or command line my way to the login gui?
