Japanese input with Fcitx and Mozc: no popup window?

Post by etatoby »

I'm using 18.3 Sylvia Xfce. I just installed Japanese input, loosely following this guide. What I did was:
  1. Open Language Settings, Input Method, install the Japanese package and select Fcitx as the input method
  2. Log out and back in
  3. Click on the Fcitx indicator icon, Configure Fcitx, plus button, uncheck Only show current language, search for Mozc and add it
  4. Use Ctrl+space to toggle between direct English input and Mozc
The basic functionality is there, meaning I can type romaji and use Space to cycle between the conversions.

But I don't get the conversion popup.

I have tried on Xed (gtk3), Leafpad (gtk2), Tea (qt5), Chrome, and Firefox. None of them show the conversion popup.

What should I do?
