Lets try the script again

Code: Select all

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info
Then you can

Code: Select all

cat wireless-info.txt | nc termbin.com 9999
Post the URL from terminal

I did this Terminal Command and got the following results.
I stripped everything except "Network"
Does this mean the adapter should be working?

john@john-TP500LA ~ $ inxi -Fxz
Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller
driver: r8169 v: 2.3LK-NAPI port: e000 bus-ID: 02:00.1
IF: enp2s0f1 state: down mac: <filter>
Card-2: MEDIATEK MT7630e 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter
driver: mt7630e v: 2.3.8
2.3.8
2.3.8
2.3.8
bus-ID: 03:00.0
IF: wlp3s0f0 state: up mac: <filter>
Card-3: Ralink RT5372 Wireless Adapter usb-ID: 001-004
IF: null-if-id state: N/A mac: N/A

then issued the rfkill list to see what comes up

john@john-TP500LA ~ $ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked:

after I killed in the internal WiFi adapter I looked at Network Connections and didn't see anything new.

Do this

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gksu
gksudo xed /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Delete the first 4 lines of the file and the last line so it is

Code: Select all

blacklist evbug
blacklist usbmouse
blacklist usbkbd
blacklist eepro100
blacklist de4x5
blacklist eth1394
blacklist snd_intel8x0m
blacklist snd_aw2
blacklist i2c_i801
blacklist prism54
blacklist bcm43xx
blacklist garmin_gps
blacklist asus_acpi
blacklist snd_pcsp
blacklist pcspkr
blacklist amd76x_edac
Save, exit and reboot

That other site wouldn't let me view the file

Jeremy,

I owe you a Steak Dinner at the restaurant of your choice....
Network.png
Note The Signal Difference between the internal Adapter MediaTek and the Panda.
Panda is 100%, the internal is 83%... and at hotels it keeps dropping out.

give me your email address in a PM and you have a gift card!

I can now turn on/off whichever adapter I want direct from the On Screen Network menu.

Just to prove it, I disable both of them and got the popup "Disconnected - you are now offline"

Then I turned on the Panda and "you are now Connected"

whoopee!

Thank you, Thank you, I now have a Hotel WiFi shark at my command.

The Hightail server, the reason you could not download those files was because I sent them to my email address and I am already "Certified" to use that server.

if I had sent those files to your email address, you would have received an email with a specific link good only for you.
