[Solved] virtualbox-5.2.6 Not Working?

Post by Mattyboy » Tue Jan 16, 2018 4:54 pm

Virtualbox released a new version 5.2.6 on January 15th, 2018

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/News

Yeah I've read others having issues and them saying 5.2.4 solved it, which I can't find on their site... Hmmm, Installed using the gdebi package installer, created VM ok but when I clicked start...

I've checked software manager and made sure older versions/dependencies were removed before installing ( yup did a re-start ). This fixable? Cheers.

What does this command output?

dpkg -l | grep virtualbox*

If it lists any more packages than this those additional packages need to be removed.

ii virtualbox-5.2 5.2.6-120293~Ubuntu~xenial amd64 Oracle VM VirtualBox

I've just upgraded 5.2.4 to 5.2.6 and 5.2.6 appears to be working fine (kernel 4.13.0-26, 18.3 sylvia)

Did you execute the advice in the error message? If so, what happened? If not, why not?
A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. - Max Planck

I didn't, honestly executing bin files is something I'm not familiar with yet as I've never had to do it before.... something else for me to study up on.

I suspect searching for uninstalled dependencies was probably the right solution here.

Due to a totally unrelated issue I ran a timeshift backup last night to resolve NIVIDA driver issues I was having. The back up didn't contain any files relating to virtual box. Just sat down now to resolve this issue and it installed fine and works without errors. So I'm guessing software manager didn't remove everything.

So that's sorted. Thanks as always for the input guys. Solved.
