ISO Install - Invalid Boot File

Post by Arkwright » Fri Jan 19, 2018 2:03 pm

Hi, I try to install 18.3 Cinnamon 64 bit alongside Windows 7 (not via a VM) - but I have fallen at the first hurdle.......

* I downloaded the iso file linuxmint-18.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso to a USB stick.
* I reduced the size of C: to leave bags of space for a new partition (which I am hoping the Cinnamon installation will create in the freed HDD space)
* I changed the boot sequence of the PC to look for USB first
* I restarted the PC.

The PC found the USB on startup but complains that it is an invalid boot file.

Do I need to do something other than simply download the iso onto a USB stick via Windows 7?

Many thanks for any help!

ISO files are image files, which are different from data files. You need an ISO burner/writer program to burn/write the ISO to the USB flash-drive or DVD+R disc before the ISO can be used for installing the OS.

For Win 7, you can download the Etcher or Universal USB Installer program to do so. Please refer to ... http://linuxmint-installation-guide.rea ... en/latest/
