Pysol issue. freezes system

Post by tadrane »

Hope this is in the correct forum.

Recently loaded pysol, and when opening and starting the game, sometimes just seconds, other times a minute or so into it,
the laptop freezes.
Just asking to see what and where I can check to solve this. Had the games on an older, now dead, laptop, without issue.

System Info as follows..... Thank you for any help!!!!!!!!

I had a look here ...

https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/application ... e/pysolfc/

... and here ...

https://pysol.en.uptodown.com/ubuntu

... and it appears to be abandonware. The newest supported Ubuntu version says 13.10, which is about 5 years old, and the page with the dl link (I suspect it's a tarball, ugh) is dated 2012.

The truth is that Linux does not have backwards compatibility like Windows so I'm not surprised it's failing. I'd be looking for another program that IS supported.

I have been using pysolfc found in the software manager. It runs fine with Mint KDE 18.3 and every version I have had going back to 17.

I am using PysolFC on nearly every system I have. Including my current laptop, with LinuxMint 19.1 MATE, MX 18, Ubuntu Studio 18.10, and LinuxMint 19.1 XFCE partitions.

ONLY on the Mint XFCE partition do I get this lockup. Strangely, it does NOT lock up my system, just the game. It loads fine, and as soon as I start to move a card, it locks. But I can still do other things on my system (including, last nigt, system updates) while the game is so locked.

This is bad behavior. And as stated, it does not do this in LinuxMint 19.1 MATE. I suggest you install that and stop using the XFCE version. I have not tried this on Cinnamon, as I have an up and down relationship with Cinnamon and MATE works better.
