Hey, you've got a noob here. So expect nothing technical from me. :?

I've read your post. Have you found a way forward?

Is what you are after some way to get IPSEC VPNs working on your machine in Linux Mint?
If so maybe try editing the thread title to "How to get IPSEC VPNs happening on Linux Mint?".

You don't give out much info there, you should give up some. Copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
But if you're running Mint 18.x, which is based on Ubuntu 16.04, this may help:

according to older threads on Forum It seems that Strongswan will work on older versions of MINT so i may have to install 18.1

I don't use StrongSwan but did some googling and found that there are problems with the repo version of the nm plugin so you need to add a ppa and install a newer version.

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nm-l2tp/network-manager-l2tp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install network-manager-l2tp-gnome
Note the '-gnome' at the end if you want to use the nm gui.

Sources, here and here.

I just noticed a thread in our own forum that might help viewtopic.php?p=1329846.

You might want to also install sudo apt-get install strongswan-plugin-openssl, I'm not sure if you need it.
Also, like @canove's post says, log out and back in. Then click on the NM icon - Network Connections - Add - click the drop down and see what there.
