Keyboard shortcut for Xfce shutdown?

Post by zilcro » Wed Feb 07, 2018 10:27 pm

I'm having trouble with my monitor and sometimes it goes dead while the computer is on. Until I can fix it, is there a key sequence for shutting down Mint 18 Xfce by just using the keyboard?

...Thanks

Try making a keyboard shortcut with this as the command:
systemctl poweroff

Thanks for the reply but I guess my question wasn't clear...

What I need is a way to shutdown Mint with my desktop keyboard without being able to see the screen. Is that possible?

I used this on my headless file server. To shut it off, I just tap the power button once when walking by.

Xfce set "Power Button" to shut down when pressed.

sudo nano /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml

change the follow number at the end of the line from "3" to "4" on the line below.

<property name="power-button-action" type="uint" value="3"/>

save and reboot

Go to your system settings to make a Keyboard Shortcut.
Make a new shortcut (Add)

In the Command box enter the code from my first reply.
Then assign it a key sequence
You may want to use Ctrl+Alt+P or whatever you wish.
Then Ctrl+Alt+P will shutdown your computer whether you can see the monitor or not.
