Good youtube videos? or bloggers?

Post by Frldyz » Thu Feb 08, 2018 11:09 am

Been watching lots of youtube videos.
Mostly " How to install" and " 1st things you should do after installing" videos.

Are there any "dedicated" youtubers or vloggers aimed @ new Mint users?

Joe Collins has a pretty good channel IMO. Some a bit long winded, but he explains each topic well.
Certainly a decent place to start. He has a lot of videos, topics.

He's not a fan of dual boot, and while I had no problems with dual boot, I don't have any "new" or Win 10 computers either.

Here are my suggestions:
  • gotbletu
  • quidsup
  • Joe Collins
  • tutoriaLinux
  • English Bob
  • Sudo Reboot
  • Switched to Linux
  • theurbanpenguin
Avoid Eli the Computer Guy's channel like the plague, if you're looking for Linux advice. Nixie Pixel is someone you could look into; I really ain't a fan, however. By the way, I've followed Joe Collins for quite some time, watched most of his videos, and can happily recommend him; I don't always agree with his approaches, but he has awesome content, none-the-less.

I actually made a video suggesting a few YouTubers. I've probably summed it up here, but here it is anyway. I do of course make videos myself, but they lean more on the advanced side, so I would give it a miss if you're new to Linux and especially if you have zero desire to get involved with the terminal. :P

Oh, and there are tons of podcasts and RSS feeds you could check out.
  • Ubuntu Podcast
  • Linux Action Show
  • TuxRadar
  • Going Linux
The RSS feeds I follow:

I also like Joe Collins although I can understand why some find his videos long-winded. He's a great champion for promoting Linux Mint.
Also a fan of 'Switched to Linux' on Youtube.

BigDaddyLinux is quite good too, he hosts live shows as well where he has a group of guests from all over the place, it is quite entertaining.
I also like Tom on Switched to Linux.

Ya, Tom is hard to beat.

Termy- I didn't know you were on The Youtube as well, I just subscribed to you. It's good seeing others out there doing videos. I only knew about Tom and Joe Collins honestly. Joe is probably really great for someone just starting, but for me, I find myself getting impatient and want him to just run the command, LOL! It takes all kinds though and I am glad Linux is finally getting more and more spotlight now a days. When I first tried Linux back in 2005, there wasn't too many people doing blogs or anything (that I could find).

Ooo yeah, that's another good one. Some really useful videos on there. I also recommend Sudo Reboot and English Bob, if you want to not just talk Linux, but also have fun and relax; they're cool guys. :)

Oh wait, I already said their names... oh well.

LOL!

I have to be honest- I switched my desktop to Ubuntu and joined their forum. Lets just say that the people over there are NOT the same type as over here. I couldn't figure out why, but I seemed to be "shunned" because I wasn't a certified Linux Guru. Long sad story short- I am back to running Mint on my desktop and spend more time on this forum, LOL! Mint has always been good to me and the people on this forum are phenomenal! I enjoy learning in the forums as well as on YouTube. :D

That's a shame... shame on them! I'm an Ubuntu user myself, albeit non-standard. (I use Ubuntu more like people often use Arch) Some people just unfortunately forget that we all had to start from the beginning.
