Post by Pixelbr »

Hello, forgive me if there is any post about this already, but I'm new here and also it is the first time using Linux Mint (I'm using Cinnamon).

I opening this post due to a issue I'm having about software manager, for any reason I can't find it at any place, I see some links that say that this program is the main method to install software in Linus Mint. Is it any way to manually install the program ? Or find it in system ?

PS: I use the Portuguese Brazil version of Linux mint (cinnamon).

https://gist.github.com/anonymous/1cfff ... f0143023f4 more detailed information about my Pc.

And also, I have dual gpu (Intel HD Graphics 4400 and AMD Radeon 8670M Series [In windows activated by Catalyst Control Center usually when I am playing games such as Starcraft II and others] Can it works in Linux Mint ? Is there any way to donwload drivers for it ?.

The Software Manager Should be among other applications in the menu. If not, which is odd, you can install it by typing sudo apt update and then sudo apt-install mintinstall.
That should do.
Boa sorte!

You could go to settings and open the Driver Manager tool which will scan your system and detect the supported hardware which may need non-free drivers. It will then offer appropriate drivers for it and you can install the desired drivers for your hardware.

In Cinnamon, you should see it from the Menu display.

Click on the green Mint menu logo on bottom left of screen.

When menu appears, click on the brown icon that is below the Firefox icon. That's icon for SM.

It's here:

Ignore the black bar at the bottom.

The thing under the Firefox icon on the left, is System Settings. (cinnamon-settings)

Termy, what version LM are you running?

I am running LM, Cinnamon 18.3 and it is slightly different than what you show. It has the Software Manager icon under Firefox and then the Systems Settings under it.

Check it out here:

Well, the menu can be configured to your liking... for example, I don't have Firefox in my favourites, simply because it isn't one. :)
And I'm on 18.3 Cinnamon too.

IIRC, I mostly left it the way it was out-of-the-box, aside from bash configurations, as it's just a VM I use for this site and for software testing.

Hmm.....I just finished installing LM 18.3 64-bit on an old Dell Inspiron desktop yesterday, and it shows the Software Manager icon under the Firefox icon.

I'm running this desktop that I'm on right now live from the LM 18.3 64-bit thumb drive and it came up with the Software Manager under the Firefox icon in the menu.

Just like this shows:

Strange. Dunno what to say. I know I did strip Mint of quite a lot of packages while testing simplify-ubuntu, but I don't remember the menu changing that much. lol Tell you what it probably is... I usually remove things like mintinstall (although in this case it was down to testing simplify-ubuntu) and although I reinstalled it for this thread, I'm thinking that the menu hadn't refreshed that icon yet. That'll probably be why.

As you have found out synaptic can be used to install software too, for many it is the "main method". Some users feel it is superior to the software manager which doesn't give you as much information about what's installed.
