A Guide for using Removable USB flash/HD ??

Post by 222fbj »

I am a recent convert from Windows 10. With Windows it was fairly simple to insert/remove a USB storage device (flash drives and external USB HDs.)
With Mint I have a few problemse......

After inserting a flash drive I get 'Unable to Mount, another operation is Pending'
Image

I have tried 'Disks' to mount but no luck. I tried Disks options for Automatic and Not Automatic. Disks screenshot
I have used Pmount command (eg pmount /dev/sdd1/ )

Somehow, my removable USB devices eventually are mounted but I don't understand why, or what I should be doing.
:?: Is there a Guide for using/mounting removable USB storage?

thanks

Sounds like a problem with the Drive. USB devices should just auto mount in Linux the same as they would in any other OS.

Does the USB contain files? Was it created on a Windows system?

You should use

Code: Select all

sudo mount

Code: Select all

sudo umount
options dev device then path to folder.

If there's nothing on it give it a reformat with gparted.

Thanks. The USB flash drives were created on Windows and had files on them.
I reformatted the drive (in linux) as Fat32 and it seems fine now.
