<SOLVED> installation issues

Post by jlapinsnki4 » Wed Mar 07, 2018 1:47 pm

Hello,

I am not a total newbie but I am far from a guru! I just bought a brand new asus vivobook S and I want to install Mint 18.3 and remove Windows 10. I have been unable to get the computer to boot from a live USB, I changed the boot order and I have disabled fast boot.... what am I NOT doing??

HELP! I got the computer to boot from the USB drive and NOW I ran into a fatal error that says bootloader install failed and I can't get past it. The machine has 2 hard drives, a 128 SSD and 1TB SATA, I was attempting to set it up to install Mint on the SSD. Anyone out there that can help?

Thanks. I must have destroyed something because I can't boot anything. All I can do is access the BIOS.

.
For a dual-drives computer, you need to use the manual "Something else" install method. This is then followed by manual partitioning of the drives/disks.

Please boot the Live LM USB and post the Terminal output for sudo parted -l and inxi -Fxz

Can you check whether your UEFI-BIOS has a setting for "Select a UEFI file as trusted for executing".? ... https://itsfoss.com/no-bootable-device-found-ubuntu/

That's my problem, I cannot get the live USB to boot. When I try to boot all I get is a blank screen with a blinking "_" in the upper left corner. I am able to access the BIOS but that is all the computer will do!

It is an ASUS Vivobook S, running an I7-8550U processor with 8 GB RAM. The graphics card is an integrated Intel

In reference to your first question, I had disabled the secure boot in the BIOS, disabled fast boot, changed the boot order

My BIOS does not have a setting for "Select a UEFI file as trusted for executing", I also enabled CSM support and Launch PXE OpROM policy

Try to use only the USB 2.0 port, ie not the blue USB 3.0 port.
