Copying printer drivers from one drive to another Mint KDE (solved)

Post by Wompoo » Wed Mar 07, 2018 7:23 pm

I have printer drivers installed and working on my old optical drive installed with Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit KDE.
The printer is a Canon Pixma iP1600. My history with finding drivers for this printer for various operating system updates and reloads etc. has been long and frustrating. I am unable to find them for the new installation of the same operating system on a newly installed SSD.
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=264363
I am exploring the possibility of copying the drivers from the old optical drive and installing them on my new drive.

Can someone reading please instruct me how to do this if it is possible?

I feel your pain.
I will follow along with your thread, I have an Epson ET-2550 that refuses to install in Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon

I now have my Canon Pixma iP1600 printer working in both my desktop computers. I will attempt to install them in my old Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop computer.
Details over on my other printer driver thread here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=264363

I will now mark this as solved.

Nothing ever made it print correctly, nada.... the Epson drivers are all wrong, pure hex coding printed out no matter what I did. or how many different Epson printers I selected to see "if this driver will work". I wasted a half ream of paper trying.

right up until 3/15/2018 when Epson released new Linux drivers for all of their printers.

I snagged that about 5 days after the release, installed it, and wallah!!! perfect print in color...

That is good to know AZ.
I have just compiled a reference document with all relevant details of my driver installation, including screenshots of the synaptic package manager installations, printer settings etc. for future reference. Reason? Each time I have a hardware failure or operating system upgrade or re-installation, I have had to go through a long and protracted process of getting this printer to work.
