Laptop suspend problems

Post by Stealps »

I have a problem with suspend mode and hybernation on my laptop. I would lake to fix at least suspend - it works while on power, but if I take out charger, when I open the lid, laptop starting automatically, but instead of restore from sleep, it starting the clean boot. How can I find a cause?
With hybernation - it tries to restore and stucks on black screen after UEFI is loaded, so at OS restore state. So I have to power cycle it, to move it to operation state.

I have disabled all secure boot settings in bios, allowed "legacy boot" and so on.

Hibernate is a problem in LinuxMint. The link provides a fix to disable Hibernate. Scroll down the page to Section 10.

I can just stop using hybernation, no need to hide this option.
It would be nice to find out why it doesn't work and fix it, instead of disabling very useful feature.

Output above was after failing suspending.
Let's try to fix at least basic sleep mode. Hybrid sleep is disabled in power settings.

to resolve those issues, I had to turn everything off in Power Management.

during the day, I close the lid if not in use, at night, I power down and shut it off.

I for one totally agree with this strategy. Sleep, suspend, hibernate, all have no shortage of problems, not just on Linux eitther. There are plenty of problems posted on windows forums too, just do a search, you'll see. For those who would say "very useful feature" I ask how much risk are you willing to accept to save a few seconds ? Due to seeing these same questions posted over, and over again, (what at least 3 currently on page one?) I would suggest a STICKY, "sleep / suspend / hibernate if you insist, accept the risk/ expect problems?" something like that. I DO NOT see it (sleep/hibernate) as a useful feature at all, only as a source of problems.

There is no risk with suspend in my computer. It just doesn't work completely, while on battery.
Any suggestions of how to fix this?
Please, no stories, that other systems may have bugs as well. Let's just find and fix ours.
