i tried installing the amd drivers by gui but it ends up getting stuck half way of just opening the .run file
Screenshot from 2018-03-17 22-29-31.jpg
https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/ ... 4&rev=15.9
The amd website doesn't specifically mention support for linux mint but it does support ubuntu 12 lts , which i figured would be good enough
My kernel is up to date
so how should i go about addressing this, is it missing library files or something else
thank you

update, i figured out how to run .run files , that seems to have been the issue

but now i've encountered other problems the installer log says i have missing headers but i've checked my package manager and have said libraries installed

Code: Select all

Supported adapter detected.
Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers. /lib/modules/4.13.0-37-generic/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.
One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver.
Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools.
Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended.
please advice

Radeon propriety drivers are only supported in Mint 17.x or Ubuntu 16.04. Install either and get the drivers from the driver manager and you should be good to go. Not sure which Kernel you now need to be running of either of those two though, so probably best look up Kernel version and AMD catalyst.

You're welcome. Nothing wrong with asking questions... the only one that's 'dumb' is the one you don't ask ;)

If this fixes your problem please mark this thread as solved. Cheers.
