I have a good wi-fi connection and connect well with my current installed OS (kubuntu 14.04).
I am now looking for a more modern OS; however, I have downloaded a number of iso files and created Live DVD's. My problem is that they tend to disconnect from the internet (router). The router is not mine and cannot be adjusted by me.
Is it likely that the Linuxmint live DVD will act in a similar way?
My system is rather dated, but it can handle 64 bit Os's.
Let me know what you think.

Re: LiveDVD and Internet Connections
I could see your internet having issues in newer Distros, the wifi card you have uses a kernel module that doesn't like power management enabled and Ubuntu 16.04 based distros have power management enabled by default on wifi. The second issue is the encryption used on the router that you have no control over using TKIP rather than pure WPA2 with AES
Re: LiveDVD and Internet Connections
I can switch power management off (using the settings option, and clicking boxes to off). But I think that it is still on. My current kubuntu has power management switched off.
In addition, the current encryption is WPA2-PSK
I don't see a problem, other than switching power management off in the livedvd.

Re: LiveDVD and Internet Connections
I have edited the above post to be more accurate
New Post:
When using the livedvd I tried to switch-off power management using the Terminal by typing: sudo iwconfig wllan0 power off. But I received the message: Error, No such device. Hence power management when using the livedvd is on. I wonder if this accounts for my disconnections.
On the installed OS, I have power management switched off and a stable internet connection.
Advice please
