Can't move files to trash on my second drive [Solved]

Post by zeroalpha »

So yesterday I changed my secondary hard drive's name : go to disk app->select Edit mount options->toggle Automatic Mount Option to Off->edit mount point to /mnt/Main. Since then I can't move anything to trash on that drive , I can only delete files permanently. What do you think causes this?

You are not the drive's owner.

Code: Select all

ls -lsR /path/drive

That was my first thought also, but how can the OP delete anything permanently in this case? So the problem is more likely the trash bin itself.

Try this:
Open your file manager and navigate to the secondary drive. Now make hidden files visible (press ctrl-h). You should see the folder .Trash-1000. (under some circumstances the number may be different.) Try to delete it permanently. Now try to delete something from this drive into the trash bin.

Apparently I was not the driver's owner. I got confused because it's partition was NTFS and so chown wasn't working. Thanks.
