Linux Mint Freezes

Post by harmeetCA »

Hi everyone,

I use this machine for web/app development purposes. I always have terminal running with code watchers (eg: webpack etc) with IDE (Visual Studio Code) running and multiple tabs on multiple browsers for testing purposes. The freezing used to happen once in a while but lately the laptop freezes multiple times a day and I am not sure why.

Please get memory tested in grub as memtest and your disk with SMART
If possible open the machine blow the dust and see that fans are working properly
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

You might need to purge some older kernels first. Not much space left on /boot.

I have been suffering from this very problem too....In fact half way through writing this it froze....It only happens during on-line activity.....My OS is Mint 18:2 on an SSD.....On PJOTR's advice subsequent to a previous post (YouTube) I updated the kernal to the latest 4.4.0-119, checked its installation in the terminal, kept the older one just in case (there are no others) and made sure I keep the window size down.....But still the OS freezes with increased regularity. Even after re-boot, which should clear memory, the system is still slow. I have to remove the power supply for around ten minutes before start up. Temperature is OK.

It's a bit of a nuisance and any help would be appreciated.
