Google Earth
Now I don't use Windows on-line, I've tried to install Google Earth (Linux version) on my Mint 18:1 Cinnamon OS.....It downloads OK and the system says all is OK with the installation but, upon trying to activate it all is not OK.....First, the screen is half empty and secondly nothing will respond......Is there an issue here that can be resolved?.

Re: Google Earth
I just now installed the Google branded Google Earth on 18.3 Cinnamon and it works a treat.
here is a shot of my driveway, they took the picture at 10 AM on the morning after a storm blew down two trees.
by 12 noon I had cut them up with a chainsaw and drug them all over to the right side of the driveway.
What are the odds of that happening?

Re: Google Earth
While I have no suggestions for the problem posed in the OP I can say that Google Earth works great on my Linux Mint computer. It is one of the very few programs I used in Windows and works fine in Linux Mint. I wish more Windows programs had Linux versions.
Maybe you can try different options in Tools - Options - 3DView - Graphics Mode, etc
Now I see in another thread you are running very old HW and SW. Google Earth and other graphics-intensive programs require more modern graphics cards.

For many people, for whatever reason the newest version of GE just does not work properly. I am one of them, however an older version 7.1.8* works just fine.

Re: Google Earth
yes - you can have issues with the latest version of Google Earth or Google Earth Pro even.
they are currently pushing the integration into Chrome, ATM
- the older versions do seem to work better, so if you can get an older version,
do make sure that you keep a backup copy,, somewhere.

Re: Google Earth
Thanks for your answers.....Even though I have deleted the current version from all the places I can think of, when trying to install the version recommended that I have downloaded, the installation manager keeps on telling me there is a newer version already installed and I cannot see a way of overriding this.-

Re: Google Earth
How did you go about doing this "deleting"?
For uninstalling the previously installed application, you would use something like:
Code: Select all
sudo apt remove --purge google-earth*
Code: Select all
apt autoremove
I suppose that's one of the ironies of life, doing the wrong thing at the right moment -C.C.
Re: Google Earth
7.1.8.3036 (64 bit) is the version I am running without problem. I did not know there is a newer version and I will avoid it just to be safe.
