Unusual behavior with Yahoo Mail & FF 59.0.2(64bit)

Post by jerson »

Greetings

I have this nagging problem where Yahoo mail running on firejailed FF59 is regularly going into a zombie mode. In this, the page loads and I can view the emails. However, the only thing which works is to click back on Inbox and select a new mail from there. I cannot use the Next/Previous/Delete buttons on any email. The Title Bar shows unending activity.

Over many days, I thought it may be something with their service as it works well from my android phone. Then today, I thought of testing it with a new user account just to be sure. Here too, under firejail, I find the spinner in title bar keeps going. The buttons Prev/Next/Delete still do not work. Same behaviour as on my regular user account.

Then, I tried the new user account and FF59 without the firejail. This time, it was able to complete loading and all the buttons are working.

Just to be doubly sure, I tried Chromium browser and Xombrero browser from the repository. Both these browsers were run without firejail and under my regular user account as well as the fresh user account. In both cases, both browsers choked on Yahoo mail. They couldn't get to the password screen.

I am not sure what could be causing this behaviour. To be sure, I did not miss anything, I did a clear cache and clear cookies related to yahoo.com. Yet same behaviour.

Running a VBox session containing WinXP and Internet Explorer, I had a similar behaviour. I am suspecting something is amiss with the Firewall GUFW but I wouldn't know better as I am a Linux newb.

Any tips on what to look out for ?

Just some additional info

The status bar shows that it is trying to reach s.yimg.com

From the terminal, ping s.yimg.com works with very low latencies.

Somehow I find Yahoo Mail running in firejail very funny: You do what Yahoo should have done...
