Keyboard/mouse input issue in Mint 18.3

Post by luckylurchiano » Tue May 15, 2018 4:55 am

I'm running Mint 18.3 on a desktop as a solo OS.
I don't recall what my actions may have been to cause this problem.
The problem being...
My computer is not allowing input from mouse keys or the keyboard during login. I have to use the virtual keyboard option. After logging in I am able to freely move the mouse anywhere on the desktop but if I try to click on a shortcut nothing happens.

BUT, I can use the mouse on the bottom toolbar.

I can open a browser or the update option but that's as far as I am able to go. When I click on a browser link with my mouse nothing happens. I can't update my machine because the keyboard entry for the numerical password does not register.

I have tried the reboot, substitute mouse and keyboard options but they didn't work. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
