How to install viber on Linux Mint 17.3 Mate - during install get "You do not have permissions to open file". I used gdebi to install .deb file . Maybe my linux is "old"?
Thank You.

Supplying the exact command and response would really help a lot, but you probably just need to put "sudo" or "gksudo" in front of whatever the commands were that you gave before.

I just went to the Viber page and downloaded the Ubuntu package deb file and when the package installer opened I got the following:

https://www.viber.com/download/ -> "Download Viber for Linux Ubuntu":
http://download.cdn.viber.com/cdn/deskt ... /viber.deb

I get the same error with "gdebi-gtk" (a bug?) - however, in a terminal,

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i viber.deb
installs it.
Executable apparently is

Code: Select all

/opt/viber/Viber

Thanks for the info Flemur! I didn't actually want to install it on my PC, but just wanted to see if I could duplicate what the OP had run into in order to assist.
