Software install from souce requires GTK but i have already installed.

Guys, i have a problem installing some older software that requires GTK, but i have installed GTK already, but there are errors, using ./configure command below.

How old is the software you are trying to compile? GTK 1.2 was superseded about 16 years ago and isn't available in current repos. I don't think GTK versions after 2 have a gtk-config file.

I don't see a way to make this work without removing a lot of libraries that the rest of the system needs. If there's one thing newbies need to know anout Linux, it's that backwards (and forwards) compatibility do not work here, and there's no "run safely aside" function either. Another thing is that while Linux will let you do pretty much anything you want that does not mean it's going to work. If you have the sudo password the OS will happily let you completely break your system.
