[SOLVED] Linux Mint 18.3. Wi-Fi doesn't work.

Hey, Guys!

I've installed Linux Mint 18.3 alongside Win10 on my Lapop. The Network Manager sees all the Wi-Fi networks but after an attempt to connect, it thinks some time and gives no result. It even doesn't ask for login and password.

Interestingly, when I share mobile internet on my smartphone, I connect to it easily. From the other side, the network I need works for Win10, smartphone and tab but not for Linux.

I've noticed in many topics people face the similar problems but the solutions either weren't helpful or I'm not proficient in Linux enough to understand them. Please, explain me what may be the problem.

Please try installing highest kernel version 4.15.x and 4.4.x. After each install reboot and test. Good luck

If I follow you, I should go to Update Manager -> View -> Linux Kernels and find them there.

If so, I installed 4.15.0-22 and 4.4.0-127 and it doesn't help.

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl

You might need to do some more googling, since this answer is for Broadcom adapters but I see you have a Qualcom adapter

I just found that people have unstable connection with this network chip. I can't connect to a certain network at all.

I am still not sure that the problem is related to chip or drivers because for example I can connect to my smartphone's hotspot and everything works.

But when I try to connect to the exact network it loads a while and results in no response

I would actually install and use a 4.4 kernel unless there is an issue with your video card with 4.4

From what I can see, the biggest issue is something keeps setting the tx-power to 0 and I haven't seen any kernel do that to my AR9485 wifi card

I guess we could set the country code

I have 4.4 installed. But it's denoted that 4.15 is active. How can I change it?

Finally, I found the solution. It turned out to be extremely simple.

Despite the fact that the network I need was in the list of available neworks, I should have press button "Connect to Hidden Network" in network manager and type in the appropriate settings. In my case it looks as follows:

Connection: New
Network name: networkname
Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: PEAP
Username: username
Password: ********
