I love Mint, but I like Gnome desktop a lot

I was thinking on installing Gnome on top of Mint latest Version but read some posts on discouraging to do so

is there a secure and safe way of getting gnome shell on Linux Mint 18.3 ?

Assuming you get it working, if anything goes wrong after an update you're likely on your own as few if any others will be running Gnome shell and you're hardly running Mint at that stage anyway.

You'll get a more integrated desktop experience running stock Ubuntu.

Installing one of the other supported Mint DEs over your existing one is a bad idea, this is much worse.

As mentioned, when (not if) it breaks you won't get much help. The usual recommended fix is to just back up your data and reinstall.

As mentioned if you want to try Gnome Shell you'd be better off dl'ing a Ubuntu iso and booting that from a USB stick, and if you just love it install Ubuntu.
