a strange artifact in firefox searches, "client=firefox-b"

Post by mttolmie » Wed May 23, 2018 7:30 pm

Mint 18. When I specify a search, Firefox tacks on "client=firefox-b". Where does it come from and how do I get rid of it?
Internet does not respond to "client=firefox-b"

I've heard it said that if there is a catweazel in the area even badgers will avoid his territory
Is that true?

Darn! Had I known that I could have saved a small fortune attempting to learn social interactions.

I followed the link given by Catweasel. I do not know what the line "address bar: indicates client=firefox-b-1-ab " means.
It did not help me find out why "client=firefox-b" is all-of-a-sudden attached to all my searches. I have to remove the offending stuff manually to get reasonable search results.

Since there's no answer here and this was the first hit on Google for the problem:

I solved it by removing the Google search provider from:

Code: Select all

about:preferences#search
The re-adding it from:

https://www.linuxmint.com/searchengines.php

Catweazel had not explained himself directly, but indirectly by pointing to a Mozilla Firefox support thread, explaining what happens. Cf. post above.
Seems no-one can be bothered to follow links posted as an answer.
Anyway.
Thanks for explaining another way of solving the same (non-)issue.

Best regards,
Karl
