Linuxmint & W10

Both my friend and myself have bought an Intel NUC Celeron model NUC6CAYH with an Intel Celeron J3455 processor in June 2016. We have added a 250 Gb SSD.

We then made two partitions, one for Windows 10 and the other one for Linux Mint. Partitions: 122 GB for Root & 122 GB for home.
Everything worked fine until the day that MS decided to send us a huge update for W10. After that some functions of Linux Mint no longer worked and it looked like the Linux partition had been overwritten by Windows 10.

For instance, I can no longer download/update Linux Mint updates. They present themselves, like version 4.17.2 today, but without installing itself.

Before undertaking drastic steps we wonder if you recognize this phenomenon and advise us what we should do?

Linux Mint. Partitions: 122 GB for Root & 122 GB for home.
- - 122 Gb for Root is a bit big - - 40 - 60 Gb for also work.

there are reports that the windows 10 update now writes a a 'recovery partition'
- - it creates that 'recovery partition' regardless of what the current partition layout is at.
this may be what has happened to you guys.

can you now boot a LinuxMint Live Media and using the program Gparted:
- post a screen_shot of what the partition now is showing.

is the LinuxMint currently available in the Boot Menu ? and can you still Boot it ?.

These numbers don't seem to add up too well. You say you made two partitions, but you'd need three for what you've stated. One for Windows, one for Mint /, and one for Mint /home.

Also, if you actually do have 3 partitions, Windows 10 partition, a Mint / partition, and a /home partition, that would leave only 12 GB for Windows, which is too small, especially when an update comes through for Windows.

It could be that Windows update found that there wasn't enough space to download and perform the update, so it took over some of Mint's / partition.

You can copy and paste the result of this command to show what's going on with the following command:

That's why a Windows Virtual Machine comes in so handy.
