software manager wont load

software manager wont load

hi guys im running 18.3 sylvia 64 bit and when i click on the software manager icon in the menu nothing happens.

ive tried running gksu mintinstall& in the terminal but it just comes up with this

The software manager should not be run as root. Please run it in user mode.

im not sure what that means. can anyone help

It means that you should try leaving off the 'gksu' part, because that's what that does: it's for running a program as root. So try just running the normal command: mintinstall and see what error messages you get.

I had the same problem made a post here viewtopic.php?f=90&t=269393&p=1469283#p1469283 about it but no ones come up with a solution yet, maybe you will have more luck..have to say it hasn’t been too much of an issue so far.I can boot a live session with a usb stick and the software manager loads no problem , so its easy enough to browse what’s on offer and then see if you can get what you want by another method.

Try the following:
Run the following command one by one in a terminal (you can copy-paste them):

Code: Select all

sudo mv /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintinstall /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintinstall.backup

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall mintinstall
Next run:

Code: Select all

mintinstall
and see if Software Manager gets started.
I suppose that's one of the ironies of life, doing the wrong thing at the right moment -C.C.
