External Monitor Times Out

Post by zaivala »

I'm running a Magnavox TV as an external monitor (VGA) on my T430 laptop. I just installed LinuxMint 19 (I've used previous versions, and have 3 other distros on other partitions, and swap distros a lot).

For whatever reason, my TV keeps timing out after a short time. I've set all the Power Management and Screensaver keys I can find. Nothing works. I don't have this problem with (currently) Ubuntu 18.04, KDE neon, or Xenial Puppy. Any clues?

I remembered LinuxMint forums as helpful. This was not a stupid question. I advise a lot of people on what distros to use, and the response of users in the forums is a major issue in recommending what to use. I posted this three weeks ago and still do not have any suggestions.

I'll bet this post will help.

Also, your first post came a rather busy time (very recently released new version of Mint followed by 2 rather nasty issues.) I'm sure your post just got buried too quickly for someone that could offer help to do so. As of this writing, this topic only received 33 views, while the one below it that was started yesterday already has 117 views.

Does that bug report reflect your experience? In particular, do the descriptions there of how to trigger it apply to your situation?

Oh, and about your not getting a response. We are all volunteers here and have lives outside of the interwebs. I, for one, was overseas on holiday.
