PrivateVPN - Solved

Post by wf54 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 4:33 pm

After replacing a failed hard drive and installing Mint19 onto it,
I tried to reinstall PrivateVPN but there site instructions are basic at best and the help just want me to do a ‘remote control’ on my computer to install the VPN. Something I’m not too happy with. No deb package to download but I do have a list of server addresses.

I searched for idiot proof instructions without success for PrivateVPN, searches come up with openvpn and other flavours.
Writing code takes forever, a type dyslexia, no kidding.
Does anyone know of a cut and paste instructions [Idiot proof preferred] for PrivateVPN.
Any help very much appreciated.

reading replies they advice not to mess with trying to do manual changes to the root, so attempt in to fix the leak problem trying to use sudo: resolv.conf
Just get; sudo: resolv.conf: command not found
So I tried;
wilf@wilf-System-Product-Name:~$ su resolv.conf
No passwd entry for user 'resolv.conf'
wilf@wilf-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo resolv.conf
[sudo] password for wilf:
sudo: resolv.conf: command not found
wilf@wilf-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
wilf@wilf-System-Product-Name:~$ sudo resolv.conf
sudo: resolv.conf: command not found
wilf@wilf-System-Product-Name:~$

Since it won't recognise sudo resolv.conf command I'm unable to enter this to try and fix the leak;
nameserver 1.1.1.1
nameserver 1.0.0.1

Use Ctrl + O and Ctrl + X on keyboard to save it and exit the app and then check the DNS leaks should be gone.

Confirm it use the following command to write protect the file:

chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf
