I would start by looking in /home/<user>/.wine/ and subfolders.

It sounds as if you're using Wine to run applications that use the internet? I would personally advice against that... It circumvents the inherent extra security that Linux offers.

uget download manager is quite like IDM and has integration into chrome
you will also need the uget-integrator

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:uget-team/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install uget-integrator

The installer tells you where it's going to install it, so run the installer again.
Default: C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager
as I have to add the extension manually in google-chrome+
Chrome in linux or wine?
i cant find the files and folders of any application downloaded normally
If you can find the abnormal downloads, that might be the method to use.

EDIT: scratch that http://xdman.sourceforge.net/ seems to work much better even though installing is a bit awkward . download xdm-2018-x64.tar.xz extract it, open terminal in that folder and run sudo ./install.sh you can then integrate it into chrome

That's another piece of convoluted crapware.

"xdman" brings up an ugly GUI, part of which is "Add the thing to firefox" which provides the URL of the addon...then the GUI sticks and doesn't react to anything except Ctrl+C.

"DOWNLOAD" button that appears once, doesn't react when clicked yet (and doesn't appear again) there are hundreds of lines of output (in terminal, from "xdman"), about it downloading a youtube video.

The damned thing created ~/Downloads/five-subdirectories without asking or telling despite the fact that FF downloads to /data/downloads

@Flemur
ya, i just uninstalled it from /opt and moved it to my home. works good enough for downloading but i only use chrome integration. the adding of all those folders in downloads is the same way IDM works. you can change that in option to download in one folder only but you need to delete the extra folders it created. it's really large at 150MB after installation and it can use a better theme. sucks we don't have a decent downloader in linux
