Graphic issues on Dell Latitude

Post by Bjarka »

Hello everyone.
I have once again landed in a Mint distro and everything is working fine except for my graphic drivers. Video via VLC ain't running as smooth as it did with windows and (this is embarrassing for an almost 50 year old dude) I can't install minecraft due to this. :)
I have been browsing the forum but didn't really find anything useful.
What is the best way to get this up and running?

Kind regards // Jan

[Warning, not tested]
You could try this thread Drivers for Intel Graphics Card Linux Mint 18.2 viewtopic.php?t=250485
It says it's for v18.2 of Mint but may well be applicable to your situation.
There are differences in graphics hardware and drivers between yours and his setup but the fix may still work for you.

Yours:

Code: Select all

Graphics: Card: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
           bus-ID: 00:02.0
           Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 )
           drivers: modesetting (unloaded: fbdev,vesa)
           Resolution: 1366x768@60.22hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Ivybridge Mobile
version: 4.2 Mesa 18.0.5 Direct Render: Yes
His:

Code: Select all

Graphics: Card: Intel Sky Lake Integrated Graphics bus-ID: 00:02.0 chip-ID: 8086:1916
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
           Resolution: 2048x1152@60.00hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2)
GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 12.0.6 Direct Rendering: Yes
Scroll down to the post by 64bitguy where he explains how to remove the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver.

Good luck :D

Thanks for the help but no, it didn't help.
I just come to a black page when I reboot my computer (happened before your help so don't worry about it) :)

See viewtopic.php?f=49&t=272069&p=1487767&h ... r#p1487767 for some suggestions for additional packages to install to support hardware accelerated video.

This may or may may apply (I haven't updated to 19, so I don't have experience yet):

I believe having kernel 4.15.0-24 has caused some problems for others, so you may want to change to a lower-numbered kernel in the 4.15 series.
