Using latest version of LinuxMint (but verify version how?). Problem does occur in Trisquel as well.
When I enter the sound settings, input and change the preference from 'internal mic' to microphone, the setting will revert back to internal mic upon reboot.
Although it is no guarantee of privacy, I prefer to not have my laptop internal microphone turned on by default and without me noticing.
