System freezes once per day

Just set up new HP Pavilion computer last week with dual boot Win10 and Linux Mint Tara Cinnamon 19 (split 1 Terabyte drive with 500 GB for Win10, 500 for Mint). While in Linux, system has locked up once daily over the past week with both mouse and keyboard frozen. No combination of the usual keystroke breakouts will allow soft reboot. I have to hard reboot each time to recover. Most likely hardware related issue (as in, some bug in a driver or setting with your specific hardware)? Thanks for any insight... Goal is to work 100% in Linux and not boot into Win10 ever.
Note: side issue that's I've worked around by connecting cat6 ethernet to WiFi: tried to install driver for Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter but haven't yet been successful; system won't recognize the 8821 adapter. Win10 connects wirelessly fine.

You likely have a similar problem as ... viewtopic.php?f=46&t=273615 , ie your computer is too new for LM 19's kernel 4.15.

Is there some combination of keystrokes that will break out of the lock up in mint 19 for now to be able to soft reboot? I've tried every possible combination I can think of with no success.
I hate to have to keep hard booting all the time.

You could try enabling SSH & issuing

https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries is a newer kernel too, but has some *buntu patches
