On a recently re-installed system -18.3- the USB wifi adapter is not seen or working at boot. It has to be pulled out and inserted again to make it active.
The USB adapter is an Edimax EW-7711UMn.
Earlier on this system Mint15 was installed and it did not have that issue. It worked just like that.

Re-insert the adapter so that it is working, then post output of

Thank you for your reply. For the moment I moved the adapter from the rear USB3 slot to an USB2 slot at the front. On two cold boots so far it worked as should be.
