Kernel Errors

Post by JayBird707 »

For some time I have been getting the following Kernel Warning and Error when my system returns from Suspend:
kernel EXT4-fs warning (device dm-1): ext4_end_bio:323: I/O error 10 writing to inode 140897 (offset 0 size 4096 starting block 1093171)
kernel Buffer I/O error on device dm-1, logical block 1093171

I have replaced the hard drive with a brand new WD drive and still have the same problem.

Here is my machine info:
https://pastebin.com/5BaV1GRQ

Here is the Journal entries for the entire restore from Suspend event:
https://pastebin.com/Zycv4uEu

Any advice or guidance will be deeply appreciated.

Post smart attributes for both drives. Install smartmontools first:

Code: Select all

apt install smartmontools
Paste into your next post below command output:

Code: Select all

sudo smartctl -s on -iHA --log=error -f brief -q noserial /dev/sda
sudo smartctl -s on -iHA --log=error -f brief -q noserial /dev/sdb

Here's the drive configurations in case you need to see dm-1 is on sda.

smart values are sane, ask the system to perform a file system check on reboot:

Code: Select all

sudo touch /forcefsck
Check your logs for the next few days, if you see this input output error only on suspend exit I don't think it's related to the hard drive health, maybe a bug or a minor computer hardware issue related to suspend you can ignore.

Re: Kernel Errors

I've done the file system check a few times with no errors.

The other thing that happens that I think I failed to mention is sometimes on a return from Suspend the Display Manager is being restarted.

Laurent85, I hope I'm not out of line but I can't find a way to send you a message. Is it possible for you to look at my post
viewtopic.php?f=157&t=276002#p1514929

I think I have figured the problem out I just need a last bit of advice on a networking issue.

Thanks!

I don't know about the display manager but adding this to your grub boot options usbcore.autosuspend=-1 will probably fix the resume error for your external HDD:
