How to increase partition size?
Hi- When I installed Mint 19 Mate on a new computer which had windows 10 on it I chose the dual boot option, thinking I might want windows at some point in the future. I followed the default option regarding partition size, roughly splitting the 500gb ssd in half. I now realize that I did not leave enough extra room in the Mint partition to add much more in the way of music or pictures. Is there a way to take some of the space from the windows partition and add it to the mint partition? I still have the usb stick that I used to do the installation. Thanks -Howard

It can be done using the Disks utility but I think you're headed for disaster simply because you had to ask. The safest thing to do is take a full disk image (e.g. Clonezilla) before you do anything. An alternative is to mount the Windows partition and share files between the two OSen.

Thank you. I guess I could I simply copy the music or the photographs to Windows and use them from there. How does one share them? What is "OSen"? Again, thanks.
Re: How to increase partition size?
you could boot into windows and open Disk Management once your partitions appear right click on windows one click Shrink . it will ask how much you want to shrink the partition by. Now the way i did this next Part was i pulled up google and Converted GB's To MB's afterwards i had to format new space i just made . right clicked on Mint Partition and hit expand confirmed the GB's i would giving and hit refresh and it was added.
i too am new to Linux as well and sure their are other faster methods on doing it than my way but it worked for me lol

Re: How to increase partition size?
Since Mint can read/write from/to ntfs just fine, this is probably the easiest way (storing some of your music and photos on the Windows partition).
I believe the Disks program will let you mount the Windows/ntfs partition. Once the Windows partition is mounted, it's just another directory you can access with Mint. I believe a desktop shortcut to open the Windows partition is also automatically created.
