Hello, today I've encountered sudden login problem - a login loop. After typing in the password it just comes back to the login screen. I didn't mess with the system, also didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I'm using Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64 bit., I've run startx and this is what I got:

[ 36.539386] encryptfs_write_metadata_to_contents: Error attempting to write header information to lower file; rc = [-28]
[ 36.539420] encryptfs_write_metadata: Error writing metadata out to lower file; rc = [-28]

Could someone help me, please? I never had any issues with my LM, only minor things which I could figure out myself.

Error -28 is "no space left on device". You may want to switch to the console and clean up a little. (OTOH, there is a chance this error may be bogus, something went wrong with decryption.)

Dear gurus,

today I ran into the exact same problem. Sequence of events:

- Firefox crashed and rendered the system unresponsive, I had to use the reset button
- System started normally, I logged on, but there seemed to by 0 bytes free memory on my harddisk
- I restarted the system to try and get rid of the obvious error
- Since then, I cannot log on, startx gives me the exact same results as given here

I read AscLinux's answer and tried to free some memory by deleting files from console, but df -h still gives me:
/dev/sda1 79G 75G 0 100% /

I don't understand, why 0 GB are available while only 75G of 79G are in use.

@AscLinux: What exactly could be wrong with encryption here and what can I do to solve the problem?

Cheers
