I've recently installed Mint 19 on a clean SSD (replacing Mint18) and am really happy with the improvements....I do have a couple of questions to ask.
1) How do I re-define from default to the DNS settings I prefer?....In Windows it is easy but I guess I need to use the terminal in Linux.
2) I like the log on image fade out, to the background log on fade in during the log on process....But the change is too rapid....Can I slow it down?
3) The time lapse between power on and the log on screen seems much longer than in Mint18....The BIOS boot order is set correctly...Is there something I am missing?

1) Not entirely sure about the question but I believe you want your connection to use custom DNS servers? In that case go Mint menu > Network Connections > double click the connection you want to change > go to IPv4 and/or IPv6 Settings > add your custom DNS servers in the same-named field. To only use your servers, switch DHCP to "addresses only" in the dropdown. If the connection is active, reconnect for the changes to take effect.

2) There's no UI provided to change that, I believe you'd have to modify the files of slick-greeter itself.

3) Run systemd-analyze blame to see what's causing delays. Also check your dmesg.

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

1.) It is super easy to change your local ISP connection's default DNS IP addresses to those from a secure and anonymous DNS provider either through your Linux Mint Desktop or in your hardware router. I recommend restarting your computer afterward or if you changed a router's settings restarting all devices connected to that router.

Thanks gents for your replies.......DNS issue was far simpler than I had imagined.

@ gm10.....I looked at the two terminal processes, but the info provided was a little above my head...Presumably events shown in red are an issue so I did a screenshot wondering what (if anything) I can do to resolve it.....Any help would be appreciated.

That's just your old HDDs taking a while to initialize, doesn't seem like unreasonable delays
