cant see preview of video in icon in list mode - Solved

When I view files in icon mode
See a picture of the video content

When I switch to list mode
You can not see a picture

And it was not like that
I could see the picture even in list mode

How can I fix it?

have you tried going to Files then Edit then Preferences then click on the Preview tab and change it there

Go into that directory in your file manager and use ctrl-mouse-wheel to zoom in.

Are you using Cinnamon? Please post back the output of inxi -Fxz

The default thumbnailer (provided by xplayer) appears to be having issues with mp4 / AVC / x264 on my system currently (Mint 19 Cinnamon). avi / xvid are fine. Check ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory for a large number of failed thumbnails.

I suspect if you delete ~/.cache/thumbnails it will either fix the issue or you'll also note the issue in icon view as-well.

If i work out the issue or a workaround i will post back.

I've done a quick test in a freshly installed and then updated Cinnamon 19 in vbox and the thumbnailer is working fine there on the same video files that it's not working for on my installed system.

So i guess that something additional that I've installed is causing the issue and if the OP is also on Cinnamon probably the same. Unfortunately I'm on a plane in about 6 hours and won't be around to troubleshoot this further for a couple of weeks.....

That would be weird. Sounds to me like they should fix Cinnamon instead if that's really a thing.

Also I don't know about Cinnamon but usually you can enable video thumbnails like this (without removing the driver):

edit after seeing the post below: I don't know how that conflicts with xplayer, I have xplayer removed. So if the driver thing works with xplayer then that's where the bug lies.

so out of curiosity, do you have gstreamer1.0-vaapi installed?

(on Mate 18.3 here, so i can't really comment further...)

To help you with the trouble-shooting, on LM19 MATE I tried:
