Installing to VHD? Boot from RAM?

Post by registereduser »

I installed Windows 7 to a 10GB VHD that I preload into memory and then boot from RAM with firadisk.
Is something like this possible using Linux? If so how would I achieve it? I'm not quite sure how to mount a VHD to install mint to it, in Windows you just use Diskpart to mount the VHD, install to VHD, set up grub4dos, menus, install the firadisk driver and there you go.

If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it! :D I love running from RAM! Ram has such an incredible speed and it saves the hard disk from mechanical reads/writes.

I just wanted to add, I know Puppylinux for example already loads into RAM, I'm just not really sure how that works. Maybe I'll study it and try to figure it out but if you guys could help me still it would be great! :D
