Mint Mate 19 and Open DNS- solved, and thank you.

Post by David1293 »

Hi, all
I would like to use Open DNS for my computer, but I can only seem to find references to doing this in Cinnamon.
I know that I need to click on my wired connection in Edit connections, and select ipv4 (I have disabled ipv6 for security reasons).
I'm not sure of the next step, i.e. DHCP connections and how to edit them.
Please, if this has been dealt with before on this forum, could someone please post me a link to how to do it in Mate 19?

Regards
D

I'm referring to 19 Xfce but would be surprised if any of it is substantially different in MATE; Mint uses NetworkManager in all editions. I.e., indeed get to that IPv4 Settings tab; assuming that you have "Method" set to "Automatic (DHCP)" now, make it "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only", and enter the IPs of the OpenDNS servers under "DNS servers". Disable/Enable networking so as to restart the connection, and all should be done.

Hi
Many thanks for the quick reply.
Of course I'll give this a try, although I'm not too confident as yet with the terminal.
Is there no way to do this in the edit connections tab, using the GUI?
I'll try this and get back to you.

Immutable flag is ugly and incompetent solution. There are clean ways to do it, of course.
This is one.
Finding other ways will be your homework.

I expect AscLinux was addressing administrollaattori. If you do what I suggested you should be good.

Hi
Thank you fort clarifying that.
I have in the past messed up my connection, accidentally, so want to be cautious.
Also, I was confused when two posts seemed to contradict each other.
Thanks again
