I would first try just logging off then logging back on. If that doesn't work try

Code: Select all

compiz --replace &
assuming you are running compiz.

Those usually got the window decorator running again for me. I'm not sure what the default Mint window decorator is but you can try

Code: Select all

gtk-window-decorator --replace &
no garuntees though, I'm at work and can't afford to log off right now so I couldn't test it out.

If it doesn't remember you can append it to ~/.profile though if you ssh into your PC it will try to launch X every time you remotely login which isn't a big issue, but kind of annoying if you use ssh. I had a similar issue with Xubuntu and had to put compiz --replace & in my .profile

I had the same symptoms when my graphic card drivers were not working correctly. I had to switch to Metacity

Code: Select all

metacity --replace
That returned correct windows for me, so I could start working on fixing my drivers. After drivers were fixed, I could go back to Compiz.

Looks like you have the dreaded Intel bug. (965 blacklist)
It is a known bug in Jaunty/Gloria, see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell/+bug/141298

There is a lot of angry people out there in the same boat as you! :(

But, there is a lot of people working on a fix! :D

You may want to search the forums/google for your specific blacklist.

regards, and good luck, Richard
