steps to new install LMDE 3 onto Lenovo L380 Yoga

Post by johnrmames » Tue Sep 25, 2018 3:54 am

hi there,

tried to install newly created LMDE iso onto new Lenovo L380 Yoga, but can't get round the windows 10: bios commands to boot from usb not cooperating . . .

Want to purge the machine of windows altogether.

Any good clear websites that give the steps, or anyone had this difficulty and conquered it?

Cheers, and many thanks!

John

There's a separate LMDE section here where LMDE questions are better posted. Mint 18/19 etc are Ubuntu based and LMDE is Debian based, and they're more different than you may expect. However, they're similar enough to really confuse Linux newbies because the commands look pretty similar. And if you post in the main Mint sections, you'll get a ton of answers that apply to main edition Mint but will not work properly in LMDE. Just one example: there are no ppas for LMDE.

Arggh, Windows!

Many thanks for the link to this video - how could most if any know to wiggle around in an o/s to access the bios!

LMDE downloaded onto a main drive, then key was created with LinxMint17 'create usb boot' function - (think this part was ok . . . - done many times same way - always previously worked)

Trouble is the Lenovo is brand new and don't know my way round it; I saw something similar with a friends brand new Asus trying to eject Windows 10 from the drive, only to find similar issues loading Mint, so we went with Ubuntu. Luckily in Vancouver BC we have great group of linux volunteers at Free Geek https://www.freegeekvancouver.org/learn.html

If I get stuck I will venture to them, but info you provided should conquer the Windows plague!

Cheers . . . (:
