How to remove linux mint useless login screen?

Post by loneBlueFish »

I've managed to remove password on login but can't remove this useless screen, so every time I boot up I have to press the "Log in" button to bypass it.

Assuming you've added your user to the nopasswd group, revert that change and instead enable automatic login via the login screen settings app.

I don't have the "automatic login" option, instead, I have "manual login" one, and it's already turned off

My crystal ball is at the repair shop, so please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

How did you do that?
What is your exact version of Mint and your desktop environment?

Reason: Adding [code] tags. They retain some formatting that makes your output easier to read.

I've managed to check the nopasswd group from user settings, and when I did so, I was left with the dummy "Log in" button

Well, the login screen is not useless. It's necessary if you have other user accounts or want to use the built-in Guest account.

i also have no password and auto login enabled so i never see the useless screen. although it's very useful to me since i have kodi session, the default cinnamon and xfce.

The same for me, but I don't know why we have different results

as my laptop never leaves my home, I use the 'auto login' setting.
but, if it were to ever be shared anywhere, I would turn manual Login 'ON' again in a heart beat.

Do you have this field in the login window settings app and have you entered your user name, saved and rebooted?

Do you have an encrypted home directory?

You have to go to: system settings > Screensaver - then, at the very top of the Screensaver menu, click on the the settings tab. Now turn off, or untick the: 'Lock computer when put to sleep' and the 'Lock the computer when the Screensaver starts'
