Make window control buttons bigger
Hi all, new here. I'm attempting to switch from windows to linux, been using windows since the early xp days. I just installed Mint Cinnamon last night, version 19 iirc. Thus far I've been able to tailor everything to my liking, except for the window control buttons in the top right of every window. Those buttons are tiny. The ones for closing the window, minimizing the window, etc. They are so small that I can barely see them sometimes. Is there any way to make those buttons a lot bigger? It would be really cool if I could change their shape to square too, but its not a necessity.

Re: Make window control buttons bigger
Have you clicked around in the Themes window? The 'Window Borders' and 'Controls' options might help here.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Take a look at some additional Window Borders themes here - two of them are 'Big Buttoned' versions of the stock Mint-Y borders.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! With that I'm sure I'll get it figured out. Probably just end up installing that black theme with the big circular buttons. Instead of creating new threads for my next few questions, I figure I'll just ask them here.
Over at easylinux, I read this about ubuntu and mint. And I'd like to know if its true. It seems like if your Mint OS came with stuff you didn't really want, there wouldn't be any problem with uninstalling it. Say it came with some game, or the Transmission torrent manager, and you just didn't want those things for some reason. According to this man, you should definitely not uninstall them. He says that basically you are stuck with whatever they give you:
"Even when you never use a particular default application: don't remove it. Reason: the default installation is an intertwined system that's dependent on shared supporting files, which makes the operating system run stable.
When you remove a default application, you run a risk of seriously damaging the system. With some default applications this risk is bigger than with others, and with some there's no risk at all. But it's best to avoid this risk altogether.
If you want to, you can remove an unused application from the menu, but don't remove it from the system.
This limitation applies only to those applications, that are part of the default installation of Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Applications that you've added yourself, can be removed safely."

Please don't do that in the future. It makes a thread hard to follow, confuses newcomers to the thread and may discourages those with the answer to your new question but not the one to your original one to ever look at the thread. Once your original question is solved you should edit the first post of the thread, add [SOLVED] to the subject line and create a new thread for any additional questions. The exception are only follow-up questions about the same or a closely related topic.photonfanatic wrote: ⤴Sun Oct 14, 2018 4:04 pm Instead of creating new threads for my next few questions, I figure I'll just ask them here.
As he says, it depends on what you want to uninstall. He does however make it sound riskier than it really is because if you remove something in Software Manager it will tell you if that removal will result in the removal of anything else. As long as you carefully review such cases and cancel the removal if you're not sure whether the additional packages are safe to remove, then it's usually safe to remove whatever you want. There is certainly no risk in removing transmission or any game (Mint does not pre-install games). What you should never remove are any pre-installed themes.photonfanatic wrote: ⤴Sun Oct 14, 2018 4:04 pm Over at easylinux, I read this about ubuntu and mint. And I'd like to know if its true. Re: Make window control buttons bigger
Do you happen to know of any others like that? I used the Big Buttoned ones for about 3 hours. Then suddenly... they shrank. I don't really know why. I was messing around with other settings so maybe that is the problem. But I'm too new to linux to have a prayer of figuring out what I did that made them smaller.smurphos wrote: ⤴Sun Oct 14, 2018 4:00 am Take a look at some additional Window Borders themes here - two of them are 'Big Buttoned' versions of the stock Mint-Y borders.

Re: Make window control buttons bigger
That's weird - double check they are still applied in the Themes app. If they are try toggling between another windows border theme temporarily and then back again.

Re: Make window control buttons bigger
Well it I think it has something to do with the size of the window border/s. Do you know how to make the window border at the top of every window bigger? I may be able to use that to find a fix.
