Also, in Software Manger it just loads "Generating cache, one moment"
It's been doing this for like 20 minutes

Also, with Driver Manager
Failed to load the package list
This is a serious problem. Try again later. If this problem appears again, please report an error to the developers.
E:Malformed entry 1 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list (Component), E:The list of sources could not be read.

Hello, Redsky27.

As the error messages, which you had posted in your first message, clearly tells:
The software sources list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list holds an invalid line.

Please, open a terminal window. Execute the command cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list Mark the screen output which will be displayed. Paste it in your next reply. This will reveal why the file content is wrong.

A quick workaround, which will permit Update Manager, Software Manager and Driver Manager to function again, is renaming the offending file. By renaming it, it will not be used; but it can still be corrected and renamed back later on.
Execute the terminal command

Code: Select all

sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list.save
Software Manager, Update Manager and Driver Manager use the same set of software sources list files. This is why they all 3 complain about the same malformed file. Fixing it for one of them will fix it for all 3.

HTH,
Karl

Hello, RedSky27.

In the text line deb http://download.rethinkdb.com/apt main the nickname of the Ubuntu release seems to be missing, which your Mint is based on.
As you use Mint 19, the missing nickname will be bionic.

Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list with root permissions in a text editor and insert the appropriate nickname before main.

Best regards,
Karl

P.S.: a note on the screenshot:
For the future ...
As the commandline cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list porduces pure text output, there is no need to take a screenshot.
Instead you can mark the text with your mouse like on Windows. Next you can paste it into a forum post e.g.
Saves you the hassle of uploading a screenshot somewhere and posting the link.
Saves me the hassle of typing the displayed line, because I could use copy and paste instead.

Don't get ahead of yourself. ;) That repo hasn't been updated in over a year and does not support bionic: http://download.rethinkdb.com/apt/dists/

Therefore I suggest a different solution, namely to remove it:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list
If you prefer GUI, there's always Mint's Software Source tool.

Hi, gm10.

OK. I had not checked whether the repo in question actually supported bionic (Ubuntu 18.04 ~ Mint 19).
In my initial post I had suggested renaming the offending sources list file in order to work around the existing incorrect content.
This way it could have been fixed later and renamed back.
No hint whether this part of my initial advice has been followed.

https://rethinkdb.com/blog/rethinkdb-shutdown/
Today I have sad news to share. After more than seven years of development, the company behind RethinkDB is shutting down. We worked very hard to make RethinkDB successful, but in spite of all our efforts we were ultimately unable to build a sustainable business. There is a lot of information to unpack – over the next few months, I’ll write about lessons learned so the startup community can benefit from our mistakes.

OK. I see. And that announcement was made 2 years ago, October 05, 2016.
