Have you tried typing 'chirp' into the terminal? That'd be a good guess ...

This chirp? https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/ch ... nder_Linux

If so maybe the hint at the bottom of the page is relevant

chirpw in the terminal to try and launch it from there and see what if any error messages pop up.

Did you install from this PPA - https://launchpad.net/~dansmith/+archiv ... -snapshots

Bearing in mid its a daily snapshot PPA I guess there's no guarantee that a current build is buggy or not.

I was about to point you to their bugtracker - but I think you already know about it - https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/6175 - :)

Ignore the coop-computing-tools stuff - that's a different chirp.

i try chirpw
that what i got

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/chirpw", line 60, in <module>
    lc, encoding = locale.getdefaultlocale()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/locale.py", line 545, in getdefaultlocale
    return _parse_localename(localename)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/locale.py", line 477, in _parse_localename
    raise ValueError, 'unknown locale: %s' % localename
ValueError: unknown locale: en_IL

The first installation I installed from a software center
When it did not work I removed the software
And reinstalled from the terminal so this is the PPA i use

Code: Select all

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dansmith/chirp-snapshots

I installed the software in this way many times
I've never had this problem

Try this

sudo locale-gen en_IL en_IL.UTF-8 && sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

You might need to reboot before trying chirp again.

another issue, can occur if you are using an Prolific USB to Serial Port converter,
as most of those have the cheaper chipset that will often not work correctly,
& you will need to be careful of which version that you are obtaining.

thus the CHIRP program cannot see that USB converter.

I also know this problem
But that is not the case
Here the software is not turned on at all

And that's a cable I've used many times on Ubuntu without any problems

I first need to solve the problem that the program is not running (turn on)

Can you try setting your system language to another English version to see if that helps?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling languages and it did not help

This is all that appears in the language settings
Maybe something should be removed?

I installed the software on Linux Mint previously several times
And it always worked without problems
Or without special settings such as USB

strange

Run sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales again.

Navigate to and check en_IL UTF-8 using the arrow keys and space bar. Tab to OK and press enter. On the next screen select en_IL UTF-8 and tab to OK and press enter. It should go back to the terminal and tell you it's configuring en_IL UTF-8

Once that's done test the output of locale again. It should hopefully all say en_IL UTF-8. You might need to log in and out. Test chirpw....fingers crossed...i'm suggesting this by semi-educated guesswork... :roll: :)
