Is their a daemon to update time from a time server?

Post by lagagnon »

I am fairly new to Mint, but an old Slackware guy. I have looked through all the processes (ps aux) and the cron files to see if Mint is set up to update the hardware clock automatically. I don't see anything obvious, but please correct me if I am wrong.

If there isn't something already set up I will use my little Slackware script in /etc/cron.weekly ....

ntupdate, it should already be installed
--use Administration in the mint menu>Time & Date, set configuration as keep synchronized with Internet servers, this will offer to install ntupdate if it is not already active/installed..

Thanks for that DrHu, did not see that facility. I think though, I'll stick with my once weekly "rdate" script from cron rather than have ntpdate running as a continual process. After all, once a week checking the clock is more than enough, more than that is a bit pedantic! :D Thanks...
